USPS Informed Delivery is a free mail-preview and package-notification service—useful when you travel, move, or simply do not want to overlook an important letter.

What it does
Preview incoming letter mail and follow USPS package activity in one place.
The Daily Digest typically shows grayscale images of the address side of letter-size mail processed through USPS automation. Available package tracking appears in the same service, accessible by email, the USPS website, or the app.
It previews the outside of the envelope—not the contents. Flats, magazines, some manually sorted pieces, and mail that does not pass through the relevant automation may not appear as an image.
Why it is useful
One small setup answers a lot of “Did that letter arrive?” questions.

Watch for government, banking, insurance, tax, or home-related mail while treating the physical piece as authoritative.

Sign-up process
Set it up in four steps
Check the address
Enter your residential or business address—or an eligible PO Box—on the USPS registration page. USPS checks eligibility first.
Create or sign in
Sign in with a USPS.com account or create one for free. Updating an online profile does not file an official USPS Change of Address.
Verify your identity
USPS asks you to prove that you are entitled to see mail for the address. The available verification method can vary.
Choose notifications
Turn on Daily Digest emails, or check incoming mail and package activity through the USPS website and Informed Delivery app.
Know the limits
A preview is not proof of delivery.
- The notification and physical mail may not arrive on the same day; USPS says to allow several days.
- Not every mailpiece gets an image, and not every address is eligible.
- If a preview appears but the piece does not arrive, use USPS Missing Mail or customer-support procedures rather than treating the image as a delivery scan.
- After moving, file an official Change of Address separately; editing an online profile does not forward mail.
