Denver metro home setup

Who handles power, gas, water, and trash at your new address?

There is no single provider list for every Denver-area home. Service depends on the exact address, municipality, special district, and HOA—so verify the property before opening accounts.

The fastest way to verify

Check four sources before opening an account.

  1. Recent seller billsThe clearest evidence of the current utility companies.
  2. Title and closing documentsCheck how water, sewer, and special-district charges transfer.
  3. HOA or community managerAsk whether trash, recycling, water, or common-area service is included in dues.
  4. Provider address lookupUse the full street address and unit number—not only the city or ZIP Code.

Common metro utility providers

Your utility territory determines the provider.

These are common starting points, not a promise that a company serves a particular home. Electric and gas service may come from different providers.

Trash, recycling, and compost

First determine whether the city, HOA, or a private hauler serves the home.

01

Denver single-family homes

Denver Solid Waste provides weekly trash and compost and every-other-week recycling. Residential trash charges are based on cart size; recycling and compost are included. Use Denver Utilities Online for account and collection details.

02

Condos, townhomes, and HOA communities

Many communities contract service collectively. Avoid opening a duplicate account—confirm what dues include, bin location, allowed carts, and bulk-item rules.

03

Suburban or private collection

A municipality may designate a hauler or allow homeowners to choose. Common companies include Waste Management, Republic Services, Waste Connections, and GFL. Compare address eligibility, rates, recycling frequency, cart fees, and cancellation terms.

What to have ready

Handle setup 3–7 days before closing.

Final reminder

Water, sewer, and trash can also be billed through a metropolitan district, municipality, or HOA. If the address is outside the providers above, rely on closing records, seller bills, and the HOA welcome package.
