Genesee Park

Denver’s largest mountain park combines a historic bison herd, foothills trails, and a summit panorama close to the city.

Why it belongs on your list

Denver acquired land at Genesee in 1912, helping launch its Mountain Parks system. Today the 2,413-acre park reaches an 8,284-foot summit, protects foothills habitat, and holds one of Denver’s two conservation bison herds. The herd was established here in 1914 from animals descended from some of North America’s last wild bison.
